About the COE Centennial Website
The College of Education Centennial Website was launched in April 2008 as part of the College’s celebration of a century of teaching, service and research.
The site is an ongoing project which will continue to be updated with new features, photos and stories throughout the year. Indeed, we invite you—whether you are a faculty, staff, student or alumni—to share your stories and memories about the College and the people associated with it by visiting the section titled, Stories and Memories.
On the right hand sidebar, you’ll find Alumni Stories, Retired Faculty Stories, the COE Oral History Project (Q&As with current and retired faculty) and a special section called Folks and Fables which highlights some of the colorful and entertaining stories about the College over its first 100 years.
Elsewhere on the site, you’ll find a list of upcoming Centennial Events that will be updated throughout the year.
Under COE History, we have some fascinating features on the right hand sidebar that include the COE First 50 Years Bulletin that was part of the College’s Anniversary Celebration in 1958; The Year 1908 that gives you a statistical glimpse at what life was like 100 years ago; and Landmark Events of 1908.
On the left hand sidebar under COE History are Deans, the biographies of each of the 14 head administrators of the College over the past 100 years; and the COE Timeline, which chronicles major events in the College.
Department Histories will link to timelines chronicling major events in each of the College’s nine departments. When completed, these will be posted on each department’s home page.
A section called Photos, also still under construction, will offer a slide show of photographs of the State Normal School, the College of Education, its faculty, students and alumni that have been gathered from the files of The Hargrett Archives of the UGA Libraries, UGA Photography as well as of the College itself.
Under Video, we will post short clips from the official College of Education Centennial DVD, which is currently in production. A short version of the DVD will premiere at the College of Education's Centennial Celebration on June 13, 2008.Under coeSHOP, you can purchase your very own EDUDawg and many other COE Centennial gift items such as T-shirts, knit shirts, coffee mugs and the Centennial DVD.
