CAROL HURST'S CHILDREN'S LITERATURE NEWSLETTER --Carol Hurst is a storyteller, lecturer, author, columnist, and language arts consultant; her newsletter includes book reviews, teaching ideas, links to author interviews, professional topics, and more. CHILDREN'S BOOK COUNCIL --This site lists services intended for the use of teachers and librarians. It provides quick access to current recommended social studies and science books for children. CHILDREN'S LITERATURE WEB GUIDE --This is THE children's literature web address leading to dozens of other sites and leaving very few web sites for children's literature not connected. Included are ALA "best" and award lists, parent, writer's and storyteller's resources, full text children's books, publisher's information, discussion list-servs, author's pages, etc. DATABASE OF AWARD-WINNING CHILDREN'S LITERATURE --Campus of Ohio State University, compiled and indexed this database of award-winning children's literature. Parents, teachers, and older children can access high quality book titles via keyword or phrase searching, or by using a form to indicate reading level, genre, language, historical period, gender of the protagonist, and ethnicity of the protagonist, among other elements. Books listed have been recognized with awards ranging from the Caldecott Award to ALA Notable Books for Children to the Coretta Scott King Award, to name a few. Honorable mentions are alos included. International Children's Digital Library NOTES ON THE WINDOWSILL -- Formerly known as The Web Online Review this is a resource by and for people who love children's books. Its primary goal is to evaluate books seriously. PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY --Publisher's Weekly provides information on best-sellers, including picture books, fiction and nonfiction books, and paperbacks. SLJ-BEST SITES FOR LIBRARIANS -- brings you websites of interest to children's, young adult, and school librarians. VANDERGRIFT'S 100: LIST OF YOUNG ADULT AUTHORS AND TITLES --This list, which changes each year, includes books of historical significance. Many of the titles are in paperback, and almost all will be in public libraries. This list is intended to provide guidance for those unfamiliar with literature for young adults, but it is not exhaustive. ERIC CLEARINGHOUSE ON ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION --Gives access to the test locator (for finding specific tests by subject, title, author) as well as other testing helps. EISENHOWER NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE --Provides links to primarily math and science lessons. ITCS TOP TEN K-12 EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES--Internet Training & Consulting Services, favorite sites for K-12 students and teachers. KATHY SCHROCK'S GUIDE FOR EDUCATORS --As the home page states, this site is a collection of sites on the Internet found to be useful for enhancing curriculum and teacher professional growth. LETSNet-MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY --Learning Exchange for Teachers and Students is a place where teachers can develop their understanding of the Web and find ways to effectively use the World Wide Web in their classrooms. MID SOUTH EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE CLEARINGHOUSE -- "Several faculty and staff members of the Univ. of Memphis have established the Mid South Educational Software Clearinghouse. The MSESC has begun collecting software programs from all over the world. Special emphasis will be placed on software that is useful in teaching students with a variety of needs." NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES --NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related eduction. It's website provides information about other internet links and resources, journals and publications, standards and curriculum, and teaching resources. NATIONAL SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION --The NSTA web site offers information about education resources, NSTA Standards for science teacher preparation, publications, and a list of notable science children's books. PENN LIBRARY-EDUCATION/K-12 --Penn Library's web resource links to educational institutions, subject resources, sites for children and teachers, and internet initiatives. PETER MILBURY'S SCHOOL LIBRARIAN WEB PAGES --This is an excellent list of resources for school librarians. TEACHER/PATHFINDER --This is essentially a collection of links to a large number of on-line resources which has something for everyone involved in K-12 education professionally or as a parent. TOM SNYDER PRODUCTIONS EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE --All of these products combine technology with cooperative learning and critical thinking. HANDS-ON SCIENCE CENTERS WORLDWIDE --This page contains pointers to worldwide public museums with a strong emphasis on interactive science education. HOTLIST: ONLINE EXHIBITS --This site contains a list of online educational interactives and online educational exhibits. ICONnect CURRICULUM CONNECTION -- An AASL/ALA project. INDEX TO NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC'S PUBLICATIONS --This goes back to 1888. The index includes the National Geographic Magazine, Traveler, World, NGS books, TV specials and home videos. K-12 TECHNOLOGY : ONLINE MAGAZINES KIDS WEB-DIGITAL LIBRARY FOR SCHOOLKIDS --Presents students with a subset of the Web that is very simple to navigate, and contains information targeted at the K-12 level.
