Clinic Services
Audiology Services
Audiology services are provided to individuals who have concerns regarding their hearing. Individuals may be self-referred or referred by a physician or other professional. Services available include evaluation of hearing, aural rehabilitation, and amplification. Services are available for infants through adulthood whenever there is a concern regarding hearing, listening, discrimination of speech, or processing of speech.
Audiology Diagnostics may include any of the following:
- Pure-tone hearing thresholds
- Discrimination testing, speech reception testing
- Immittance testing (middle ear function)
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
- Play audiometry
- Pediatric Screening Clinics
- Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
- Central Auditory Processing Disorder Evaluations (APD)
- Consultation and referrals as needed
Audiology services may include any of the following:
- Hearing aid evaluations
- Dispensing hearing aids
- Repair of hearing aids
- Hearing aid checks and service
- Custom ear molds
- Musician's hearing protection
- Swim molds
- Assistive listening devices
- Aural rehabilitation
- Consultation
Services provided:
- Scheduled off-campus screenings
- Year-round clinic appointments
- Emergency hearing aid repair
- Semester group sessions
- Scheduled clinic screening sessions
Speech-Language Diagnostics may include any of the following:
- Examination of the oral-facial speech mechanism (lips, tongue, palate, teeth, and supporting structures)
- Assessment of articulation and phonological development
- Assessment of language comprehension (i.e., receptive language)
- Assessment of expressive communication skills (i.e., expressive language)
- Assessment of written language disorders (reading, spelling)
- Assessment of language delays related to developmental disorders or autism spectrum disorders
- Assessment of fluency of speech (i.e., identification of stuttering)
- Assessment of voice and resonance
- Assessment of need for augmentative or alternative communication devices
- Assessment of communication differences related to accent or dialect
- Screening of hearing or referral for audiological testing
- Screening or assessment of swallowing or referral for an instrumental swallowing evaluation
Speech-Language Therapy may address any of the following difficulties:
- Treatment of speech intelligibility
- Articulation and phonological disorders (speech sound disorders)
- Apraxia
- Dysarthria
- Treatment of delayed or disordered language or cognitive –communication disorders
- Comprehension
- Expression
- Language problems related to neurological disorders (aphasia, brain injury, etc.)
- Memory, language and attention disorders
- Written language disorders (reading and writing)
- Treatment of disorders of fluency
- Treatment of voice and/or resonance
- Organic voice disorders (e.g., vocal nodules, polyps, etc.)
- Voice disorders resulting from use factors
- Resonance disorders (hypernasality)
- Treatment/training of augmentative communication systems
- Sign language
- Non-electronic and some electronic communication systems
- Consultation with others regarding the device or system
- Consultation regarding engineering a classroom for an AAC user
- Referral for evaluation/recommendation for alternative or advanced electronic systems
- Treatment of hearing impaired
- Speech and/or language issues
- Accent modification/reduction classes
- Group classes for reduction of accent or dialect affecting communication
Free Speech and Hearing Screenings
Hearing and speech screenings may be scheduled for preschools and schools when requested, based on scheduling availability. Free screenings are also provided for the community in our on-campus Speech and Hearing Clinic each fall and spring.
