Applied Cognition and Development (ACD)The Ed.S. ProgramThe Ed.S. in Applied Cognition and Development was developed to enhance your knowledge of human development, learning, and motivation. As with our M.Ed. program, our Ed.S. program has few required courses allowing you to design a program of study tailored to your interests. Candidates for the Ed.S. program must have the minimum undergraduate grade point average and total GRE score required by the graduate school. Candidates must have completed the M.A. or M.Ed. degree. Candidates' admission to the Ed.S.program is decided by the faculty of the Applied Cognition and Development program. A majority decision of the faculty is required, and a faculty member within the program must agree to serve as temporary advisor. Coursework This degree requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of course work beyond the Master's degree. In addition to the required courses you will create an area of concentration based on your interests. Coursework in the area of concentration will be chosen by the student with the help of his or her advisor and approval of his or her committee, and must form a coherent and logical whole, leading to an in-depth understanding of a particular area. At least three credits in the area of concentration must be taken in EPSY 7650: Applied Project in Educational Psychology. This course serves as part of the student's work toward the completion, evaluation, and reporting of a substantial applied project in the student's chosen area of concentration. As a part of this project, the student must apply knowledge from graduate coursework in an applied setting. A cumulative report of this project will be submitted to the Ed.S. committee as the Ed.S. exit examination. Students will also be encouraged to make the results of their project available to a larger audience through a conference presentation or publication. Core Statistics, Research Methodology and Measurement The department assumes that students have already taken some theory and measurement courses as a part of their M.A. or M.Ed. degree. If this is not the case, two MA level courses will need to be included in the Ed.S program of study and taken prior to the 8000 level statistics, research methods, or measurement level course. _____ One 8000 level statistics, research methods or measurement level course. Core Theory Foundation Courses ____ One 8000 level theory course. Area of Concentration _____ EPSY 8990: Research Seminar in Educational Psychology Evaluation Procedures Students will be evaluated annually in accordance to Graduate School minimal requirements for progress to the degree.
